Textual Research
Following my textual research, I've decided that I should be using things such as skylines and puffs to make my magazine seem like real value for money. My sell-lines should stand out and my main image should slightly obscure my masthead. I should then have secondary images to make sure I'm using space to my advantage. Red and black are colours often used within this genre of magazine as they imply danger, passion and something out of the ordinary (i.e. safe, manufactored pop music) so I will incorporate these colours into my own product. I also liked the use of blue on the front cover of 'Kerrang!' so this is something I hope to also incorporate. The eyeline of my model in my main image should be within the top third, as it shows confidence.
My contents page, like 'Kerrang!' and 'RockSound' should include images and text, as it makes my magazine seem more exciting and interesting. I should make sure my contents page resembles professional practice by making sure I have lots of page numbers. To make sure these are features you would find in my chosen genre of magazine, I'll look through back-issues of 'Kerrang!' and 'RockSound' to collect a few ideas.I like the idea of a main image in a contents page (again, like you see in 'Kerrang!') but to make my product stand-out I will use one large image, accompanied with a few secondary ones and I'll also make my layout different to the models you see in these magazines.
My double page spread will be an article, as the readers of this genre like to find out more about their favourite bands/artists. To make sure my article doesn't seem boring, I'll use exciting colours (e.g. red) and quote inserts to break up my article - making it seem much shorter than it actually is. With this genre of magazine, as shown in my textual research, the double page spreads generally have a main image on the left page (as it shows importance). This is something I'll reproduce in my product.
